Choose a skill repository by the task you need to finish. For marketing copy, inspect a focused writing procedure. For a Word document, inspect a document skill and its dependencies. For a code or website change, look for a method that requires evidence before calling the work complete.
Start with one procedure and test it on a small example. A large collection can be useful for discovery, but its size and popularity do not establish that your chosen skill works with your files or tools.
This is a task-based shortlist of four repositories, with two small editorial trials and downloadable inputs and outputs. It is not a ranking of the best skills.
A shortlist by the work you need to do
| Repository | Useful starting task | What we checked | Main limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| coreyhaines31/marketingskills | Draft marketing copy from an approved offer | Copywriting instructions and a small text draft | No conversion measurement or baseline comparison |
| anthropics/skills | Prepare or inspect documents | Repository documentation and document-skill licensing distinction | Document skills were not run in these trials |
| AgriciDaniel/claude-seo | Plan a structured SEO audit | Repository documentation | No execution of its audit workflow or score validation |
| obra/superpowers | Verify a change before claiming completion | One verification procedure applied to a seeded website fixture | Full framework and host integration were not tested |
Documentation was reviewed on October 12, 2026. The two trials used instructions supplied manually to the current Codex session. We did not install the collections, test automatic skill selection or run a Claude Code plugin. This distinction matters: a useful procedure and a working host integration are separate things.
Marketing: use a brief before asking for better copy
The copywriting procedure in marketingskills asks for context about the page, audience, offer and intended action. We also read its writing-review references. The reviewed repository includes an MIT license; keep the relevant notices if you redistribute licensed material.
Our small copywriting trial
We supplied a fictional Northline brief: a studio offers Home, Services and Contact pages, an enquiry form and a link to the client's existing booking service. The first action is a scope discussion. No testimonials, delivery deadline or performance figures were supplied.
The task was to produce a homepage hero, a supporting section and three headline/CTA options. Here is the primary draft:
A clear website for your service business
Present your services, collect enquiries and link visitors to your existing booking service.
Request a scope review
The supporting section explains agreeing the pages before the build. The output flags missing customer proof and a factual differentiator instead of inventing them. We checked that it retains the existing-booking scope, uses the approved primary CTA, supplies three options and avoids unsupported numerical promises.
Result: the draft passed those four brief checks. The broad headline still needs a stronger, factual differentiator before commercial use. Text cadence was reviewed silently; no audio review was performed. This single trial does not show improved conversions or superiority over a plain request.
Read the trial summary and draft, or inspect the full input in the downloadable trial bundle below.
Documents: inspect the exact skill and its terms
Anthropic's skills repository contains examples across several tasks. Its README distinguishes many Apache 2.0 examples from document skills that are source-available rather than open source. Do not describe the whole collection as having one unrestricted license.
If you need a Word proposal, inspect the document skill's own instructions, license and required programs. Separate document construction from checking the commercial contents: a rendered proposal can still contain the wrong price or an unapproved promise.
Status here: reviewed, not executed. Our skill evaluation guide shows a task-fit review of the Word skill and an evaluation card you can reuse. We make no document-output quality claim from the present trials.
SEO: distinguish an audit method from an audit result
claude-seo describes SEO workflows and supporting mechanisms for Claude Code. The reviewed repository includes an MIT license. Inspect the chosen procedure and the host features it relies on before treating the complete package as portable.
Start with an observable question: does the audit identify the wrong canonical URL on your test page? Then inspect the evidence and correction. An author's score is not a Google ranking result, and instructions do not supply access to your analytics accounts.
Status here: documentation reviewed, audit workflow not run. The website trial below used our own small checker; it is not a test of claude-seo.
Review: require fresh evidence for the claim
Superpowers is a broader development methodology. We selected its verification-before-completion procedure for a narrow exercise. The repository includes an MIT license.
The procedure requires identifying the relevant verification, running it and reading its output before making a completion claim. It does not provide our domain-specific checker or decide which website requirements matter.
Our small website verification trial
We created a local fictional page with two deliberate defects: its canonical pointed to the wrong example domain, and its Contact link pointed to a missing file. We supplied a Python checker for those two requirements.
| Version | Command | Observed result | What we could claim |
|---|---|---|---|
| Before correction | python check.py before.html |
Exit 1; wrong canonical and missing link target | The two checks failed |
| After correction | python check.py after.html |
Exit 0; no reported errors | The corrected fixture passed these two checks |
The corrected page points to https://northline.example/ and the supplied contact.html. Both commands were run with Python 3.14.4 on October 12, 2026.
Result: we retained the failed run and a fresh passing run before reporting the correction. The checker only checks the canonical and local file targets. It does not establish mobile usability, accessibility, form delivery, indexing or a complete website audit. The full Superpowers framework was not installed or tested.
Download the examples and repeat the checks
Download the readable trial summary. It includes the marketing draft, review findings and limitations.
Download the synthetic trial bundle. It contains our fictional brief, draft, before/after HTML, checker, recorded results and reproduction instructions. Third-party skill source files are linked rather than included.
The bundle records the exact repository revisions reviewed. If you repeat the examples with a different skill version, host or model, record that change alongside the result. Run the comparison against a plain request separately if you want to know whether the added procedure helps your own workflow.
Choose one next action
For a copy task, start with the approved offer and one writing procedure. For a document task, verify the skill's terms and tools before creating a trial file. For an audit, seed a known defect and inspect whether the method finds it. For a completed change, run the checks that actually support your claim.
Record the chosen candidate, source revision, unresolved dependencies and trial result in the skill evaluation card. Use the extension decision guide if the problem might be project guidance or missing access rather than a reusable procedure.
Common questions
Are these repositories recommended for automatic installation?
They are starting points for selecting a procedure. Review the smallest relevant unit, its license and dependencies before making it available in your project.
Do these trials prove the skills work in Claude Code?
No. We applied two sets of instructions manually in a Codex session and checked the resulting artifacts. Claude Code discovery, plugin behavior and full-package execution remain untested here.
Why not choose the repository with the most stars?
Your input, required output and constraints are better selection criteria. Stars do not show whether a procedure catches your missing page or preserves your approved offer.
Can a simple checklist be enough?
Yes. If the current tools and a clear checklist deliver the required result, keep that method. Packaging it as a skill becomes useful when the workflow is worth reusing.
Sources and verification
Primary repository documentation was read on October 12, 2026. Two procedures were manually applied in the current Codex session to synthetic inputs. No plugin installation, automatic invocation, Claude Code runtime test, baseline comparison or measured customer outcome is claimed. Inputs, outputs and checks are available in the trial bundle.
